Am I being an idiot?

I have the 02 and here I am looking at sexy Italians. No, I don’t even have the funding to do this now, but god I want to own an Alfa. It just feels so wrong. And it’s not like I would have two early 70s RWD European sports sedans. That’s a bit redundant. The only downside is that I’d be going from 2000ccs to 1300ccs, but SOHC to DOHC.

The one above is $25k and just beautiful.

It’s not like 02s are bad investments. I just think I’m ready to trade reliability for curves.

Not gonna lie, this turned out much different than expected.

Do it or you might end up regretting it. Besides, 2002’s are fairly common (at last where I live, PNW) for a Euro classic.

Ahhhh, if you only knew what I’m going through with my girlfriend right now :(

Literally the most complicated thing ever. Still wouldn’t cheat on her, though.

I live in MD, and while I have a group of 2002 friends, it’s not that common. There’s just something about an old Alfa. I really hope it wouldn’t be a disappointment. I think if I was going from a Yaris to an old Alfa it would be much more adventures and exciting. I’ve already done the old, small euro sedan thing.

These are some of the best looking cars ever made, especially in red. Don’t think of it as cheating. It would be more of a ménage á trois!

Edit: As in, buy an Alfa, but keep the 02. DON’T GET RID OF THAT 2002.

I think you would enjoy it (says the guy who’s never seen any Alfa’s in person except 164’s from a distance). Even if it ends up being broken waiting for non-existent parts 11.5/12 months every year you can still have more fun looking at it than the average Yaris owner will have their whole life.

Already have that though. I get to sit in traffic and just smile because I know I’m the only one who’s enjoying the drive. And, parts are easy to come by.

While beautiful and sounding great, the 1300 is very slow... It also has an open diff and and a “floaty rear end” at higher speeds. If you are fully aware of all that, go ahead, but not everyone enjoys cars that are this way.

I would personnally suggest saving a bit more for a 1750 or even better, a 2000 and add an aftermarket LSD to it. A suspension upgrade would do great marvel in term of driving fun and ability to push the car safely too...

Whatever you chose to do, they are great investment cars too... Don’t forget to change the insured value of the car every 2 years.

Thanks for the info. My 02 doesn’t have gobs of power, but I know it’s torquier than the the also 2000s. So, the drop in power would probably ruin it for me. And, it be worth it to save up for a 1750 or 2000 instead of trying to make a 1300 faster, and inevitably less streetable.

It’s not a bad thing really... I LOVED my 305hp Corvette... I currently LOVE my 42hp Austin Mini :)

Power is far from being that important. Also the sound and feel of speed provided by GTs and GTVs that are quite a bit smaller and lower than 2002s largely compensate the drop of power :)

You should look out for midly prepped Fiat 124 (normal ones, not coupes), you would enjoy them.
